Is PCS a good fit for you?
Peninsula Classical Scholé is:
- A Christian Classical Liberal Arts homeschool co-op. For more information on this please see our About page. Does this fit your educational philosophy?
- A Community based co-op. We ask a parent to stay at the co-op during the day. Parents teach classes, aid in classroom activities, clean, shepherd, observe, and communicate throughout the day. By having a first-hand experience at the co-op, the discussions can overflow out of the classroom. The opportunities for 'teachable moments' at home involving the learning material increases. Parents have opportunities to minister to each other. Are you looking for a co-op community as opposed to a 'drop-off' structure? If a 'drop-off' structure would work best for your family, PCS would not be a good fit.
- Currently a 'one-room schoolhouse' model. Although many of our courses are divided by upper grades and lower grades, our Humanities class is altogether - 7th-12th grades. This fosters leadership opportunities and encourages diversity in thought and perspective. Age range is thoroughly considered concerning class discussions, which may also be split into older/younger when relative. Is this the type of class setting you find attractive for your students?
- Not grade/test driven. Parent Instructors give varying levels of feedback on student work, clearly established before the semester begins. Accountability, syllabi, and deadlines are part of the classroom structure. Although some of the feedback is numerical, no overall grades are determined for the class. This is still the responsibility of the parent to decipher and keep records of during the year. Are you looking for classes with a 'grades & tests' structure that keeps it all organized for you? If so, PCS would not be a good fit.
- Offering a specific spectrum of classes. Please see our classes for the '20-'21 school year here.
- A Scholé group. Please explore the websites on our About page to confirm this is how you would like to center your family's education.
